Chorley will feel this was 2 points droppedas they were held to a 2-2 draw with play off rivals Stafford Rangers atVictory Park.

The magpies started how they finished offagainst Buxton with Matt Walwyn being a constant threat to the Rangers rightback.

The magpies and Walwyn’s effort wererewarded on the 16minutes When Tom Ince, once again filling in atLeft-back pinged a cross in and found Matt Walwyn just inside the box were hewas able to the magpies fire past Danny Read in the Stafford goal.

The magpies were given a glorious chance tomake it 2-0 when Chris Denham was fouled inside the box and the referee Mr Hullrightly pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Steve Foster but his unusuallytame shot was easy for Read to beat away to keep the score at 1-0.

Chris Denham was the first player of theday to go into the book as he was cautioned for a mistimed challenge. WhileChris Morris, who became a dad halfway through last Saturday’s game was bookedfor reacting to a tackle by Mark Ross.

Stafford then made Chorley pay for missingthe spot kick when 36 minutes the visitors were awarded a free kick whichMichael Carr smashed past Russ Saunders via a deflection.

With the half time whistle looming SteveFoster went down the wing before crossing for Matt Walwyn who created himselfsome space before hitting the back of the net to put the magpies into the leadat half time.

Stafford came out fired up for the secondhalf and made it 2-2 five minutes after the restart when awarded a free kickout on the wing and John Sheldon fired his free kick which somehow managed tomiss everyone and beat Russ Saunders.

Chris Denham should of made it 3-2 whenFoster sent him through but his shot was kept out with an acrobatic save.

While at the other end Russ Saunders wasbusy with his back 4 keeping Stafford at bay- Russ made a number of fine savesone, which rivaled Danny Read’s save.

Cunliffe and Bowen were thrown on forFoster and Vermgilio to chase the win and to protect two of the magpies keyplayers ahead of next weeks big clash with Chester FC.

Walwyn could of got his hat-trick in injurytime from a Denham corner but his shot just went wide of the post.

Despite the draw the magpies move up to 3^rdin the table as Northwhich slipped up with a 2-1 lose to Marine, tough theycould of gone 2^nd had they taken all three points as Hednesfordslipped up at FC United.

Rovers fans return to Victory Park

Fans of Premier league side BlackburnRovers are set to return to Victory Park this Saturday.

Following their visit on the 7^thJanuary as Chorley hosted North Ferriby United. The Blackburn Rovers actiongroup fans are coming back. To support the Magpies who are managed by formerRovers captain Garry Flitcroft and assisted by fellow Rovers star Matt Jansen.

Rovers are of course with a fixture as itis FA Cup weekend and they were knocked out to a last second goal by anotherset of Magpies- Newcastle United at St James Park.

Speaking on twitter organizer Glen Mullansaid “Rovers fans lots attending chorleys game v Stafford tomoz n coach arebeing put on by BRFC action group, pls support grass roots”

Hopefully they will be treated to anotherwin by the lads and once again enjoy there visit to Victory Park.

If 2011 was the year of the fans club withAFC Wimbledon, AFC Telford, FC Halifax Town and Chester all getting promotedthen surely 2012 has to be the same.

99 times out of a hundred when a club iscertain to go out of business it is generally the fans are the ones to rescuethe clubs.

For example, take Darlington FC case. Lastweek was a roller-coaster week for Darlo. With the administrators ready to killthe club off following the redundancy of all staff. The Darlington rescue clubmade up of fans stepped in and matched the £50,000 to keep the club afloat.

It brings back the old saying in football-managers; players and owners may come and go but the fans will always stay.

Also even more and more supporter clubs aretaking control of their team. Just take Wrexham of the Blue Square premier forexample.

They changed ownership in pre season withIan Roberts and Geoff Moss stepping down. The board at the BSP demanded a bondof £250,000 before they could start the season; there was confusion with whoshould pay it.

In the end the fans raised £100,000 in justseven hours to keep the Dragons alive and they have been loving life eversince.

They (at the time of writing) sit 2^ndin the BSP and were in the 3^rd round of the FA Cup with a replay athome to Brighton. The game was put back 24 hours so ESPN could beam SC4’spictures live to the tune of another £62,000 for the Welsh club.

But for clubs to keep the fans the teamneeds to play good football generally speaking. Look at Chorley in the2009-2010 season the Magpies averaged around 250-300 crowds per game.

But when Garry Flitcroft came in as managerand the team soared to the summit of the Evo-stik first division north thecrowds to also went up bringing in two 1,000 attendances before Christmas andculminated in just short of 3,000 being on for the Play off final against AFCFylde.

Looking back at Darlington fans can reallyrally behind a club when they have to stand up and be counted a crowd of over5,000 was recorded on Saturday for their home game against Fleetwood Town fcwhen it would normally pull in a crowd of 1,700.

So clubs really need to respect the fans asthey are the lifeblood of the club and can save them as Darlington fans provedlast week and many others have in the past.

Chorley's Silver lining

It was Silverlining for Chorley fc as the left Silverlands, home of Buxton FC, with all threepoints in a 3-1 win.

Flitcroft’s menhad to win here to keep up the pressure on their fellow promotion rivalsfollowing last Saturday’s disappointing lose at Frickley Athletic.

The hosts couldhave had the perfect start inside the first minute as Brad Barraclough stormed down the right wing before crossingfor James Baxendale but he could only prod the ball wide of Russ Saunders net.

Nearly 150 fansfrom Chorley had made the trip to Derbyshire and were singing their delights toa goal on five minutes as Chris Denham was fouled from about 25 yards outsidethe box and was awarded a free kick. Tom Ince chipped the ball in a Denhamvolleyed in past the wall into Scott Hartley net almost David Jones, Wolveslike.

The wind wasn’thelping either side as many passes strayed wide of their target it was a battlefor even natural passes such as Jamie Vermgilio who had another fine game withhis midfield partner Steve Flitcroft.

The hosts werelevel on 18 minutes while Tom Ince was on the sidelines getting treatment foran injury and Steve Foster filling in at Left back the Bucks broke and GrantBlack sent his cross in and Barraclough beat Saunders to the ball to head infor 1-1.

Wayne Maden wasseemly struggling at the back for the magpies and was withdrawn to be replacedby Andy Russell. But the magpies could of restored the lead as a Tom Ince freekick was floated in to Steve Foster who saw his shot hit the cross bar andbounce away.

The magpies had acouple of shouts for a penalty’s as Tom Ince corner’s seem to be cleared by thehands of Buxton players but the referee Mr Lawrence refused to point to thespot.

In the firstminute of the second half the both side had chances to take the lead as firstChris Denham flashed agonizingly wide of the post as many magpies thought itwas in before Bucks debutant Peter Davidson fired well over and out of theground.

On 69 minutes themagpies made it 2-1 when Mark Ross hit a superb cross from Adam Roscoe to headhome in front of the travelling fans who sang the lads to the win.

With 15 minutes toplay the result was confirmed as Steve Foster treated the magpies to Fossiespecial as he lobbed the keeper from around 25 yards out for 3-1.

The magpies heldon for all three points and go level with Northwhich who slip to third as theydrew at Frickley, while Hednesford move second with a win at Chester.

Next up for themagpies is the visit of Stafford Rangers to Victory Park who beat StocksbridgePark Steel 5-1.

Chorley 5 v Wigan Robin Park 0 Lancs Cup semi final

The magpies booked their place in the finalof the Lancashire Co-operative Challenge trophy as they cruised past North WestCounties first division title contenders Wigan Robin Park 5-0 at the CountyGround, Leyland.

12 month on from being knocked out at thisstage by AFC Fylde. Garry’s men who looking to make up for the disappointment astrong line up was announced which included Foster, Denham, Vermgilio, Teagueand Ince amongst others.

Goals came from Adam Roscoe, Steve Foster,Matt Wawlyn double and John Cunliffe sealed the magpies spot at the Reebox.

But credit must be given to Wigan RP,reading on twitter it was a close game in the first half and the score line wasn’tas easy as it looks.

The magpies will play the winner of eitherKendal Town or Radcliffe Borough on the 12^th March at the ReebokStadium, home of Bolton Wanderers.

Mad 48 hours for Darlo

What a rollercoaster ride it has been foreveryone connected with Darlington FC.

On Monday it was announced that the managerCraig Liddle and his entire playing team had been sacked by the administratorin charge but the players were asked to still train ahead of their game onSaturday against Fleetwood.

Then this morning it looked like as toughthe visit of the Cod army wouldn’t take place and that the club was set to goout of business.

But an 11^th hour meeting tookplace and the demands of £50,000 were met by DFC rescue group before thedeadline of 3:00pm that had been set to keep the club afloat till the end ofJanuary.

This means that the club has three moregames. They will play Fleetwood at home on Saturday, a trip to Hayes andYeading next Tuesday then they host York City on the 28^th.

A raft of Volunteers will be needed to helpthe club after the entire staff on and off the field were made redundant. Acoach has been provided for the Hayes game. But chairman of the rescue groupDoug Embleton told the BBC that the Nitty Gritty starts tomorrow.

Intrim boss Craig Liddle has said that hehas about 9 senior players and a raft of Youth team players available forselection and admitted that if needs be he will don Darlo’s kit as a lastresort.

So if you are in the North East at theweekend without a club then I urge you to make a trip to Darlington and supportthem in their fight against administration.

Dark Lane fire

A fire has ripped through a formernon-league ground.

On Sunday night pictures of Dark Lane, homeof former Evo-stik club Rossendale United were posted on social networkingsites- Twitter and Facebook showing the main stand on fire.

As you can see from the photo below, thanksto Chris Lord and the Ramsbottom United twitter page for posting them, you cansee that the main stand on fire, whichhas been completely ruined, also the dressing rooms are located under stand.

Also apparently the clubhouse was lootedand set fire after been recently done up.

This comes as a big blow for football inRossendale as people were considering setting up a new club called AFCRossendale and compete in the West Lancs league after Rossendale United ceasedbeing a football club for the start of this season.

As a Chorley fan it is a great shame to seethis happen to Dark Lane, which is was a great little ground- I only visitedDark Lane once when the magpies visited in the FA Trophy in 2009 the magpieswinning 2-1 with goals being an own goal and a strike from Terry Fearns.

Quakers sack manager and players

An Administratorof a Blue Square Premier league club decided today to make the entire team andmanger redundant.

North East sideDarlington FC now have no manager and players ahead of their game withFleetwood at the weekend after Administrator Harvey Madden decided that theonly thing they could do was to terminate the contracts of manager Craig Liddleand his players.

He said in astatement that given the club’s financial position he was left with noalternative. He also said that despite interest he had received no formaltakeover bid.

Now the board ofthe Blue Square premier has given a deadline of Wednesday to decide if their gameat home to Fleetwood town should go ahead or not.

Speaking on histwitter account player Marc Bridge-Wilkinson said ‘To say I feel sick is an understatement’.While defender Aaron Brown tweeted ‘To top it off they still want us to trainfor the Fleetwood game..’

Aaron’s tweet doseadd to the confusion surrounding the events which are taking place the NorthernEcho Arena but whatever is taking place one can only hope that it can sortitself out and the players can get new clubs quickly. As for the Fleetwood gameI have no idea what might happen.

Wigan Robin Park v Chorley (lancs cup semi final) preview

Themagpies are just 90 minutes away from the final of the Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge Trophy as they make the trip to the County Ground in Leyland to face WiganRobin Park.

Toget to this stage of the cup Chorley beat Ashton Athletic 7-1 in round two andBamber Bridge 4-0 in quarter final and go into the semi final as favorites towin the competiton , while Wigan are the lowest ranked side and will be lookingto claim a massive scalp and it won’t be the first time in this seasoncompetition that they have them first they beat Bacup Borough 6-4 away, thenbeat Squires Gate 5-4, then the quarter final saw them beat Lancaster City 4-2at the Giant Axe

RyanSmall is the only ex magpie in the Wigan RP team. While Dean Porter had a loanspell at Robin Park at the back end of last season and is the only ex Robin inthe Chorley team.

Thiswill be the first time the two clubs have played each other so neither team hasa bit of form to go against the other team and with it being a semi final theform book normally goes out the window.

WhileFossie likely to be rested it will fall on the shoulders of Denham to be themain man to score the goals he has been showing his true form since injury. Whileanother Chris- Chris McNally will be wanting to be the man who scores the goalto claim a possible scalp.

Themagpies are record holders of the competition lifting it 14 times but they haven’twon it since 1982. Although they did make last season semi final going out 2-0to AFC Fylde- who lifted the trophy and they did make the 2008 final losing 4-1to Southport. The magpies goal can been seen here - thanks to Ian Livesey forthe filming. While Wigan Robin Park haven’t lifted the trophy since theirformation in 2005.

The magpies took the lead on half time whenBen Turner diverted in for an own goal and really despite it being against therun of play the magpies should of really came out second half and made safe ofall three points.

But with 15 minutes to go Stuart Ludlam equalizedfor the Blues as he celabated his birthday by heading in the equalizer.

Winger Shelton Payne has left Chorley fc tojoin Blue Sqaure North Side Colwyn Bay.

Shelton joined the magpies last season fromTrafford and was part of the side that won promotion with he speed causingproblems for defenders.

He also scored 12 goals for the magpies andenjoyed a loan spell at Hyde FC earlier this season.

Everyone at Redcardreco would like to thankShelton for his efforts at Victory Park.

The magpies have also added to their squad bysigning David Taylor from Atherton LR. The young left back was at Deepdalebefore moving to Crilly Park.

David was an unused sub against FC Unitedin the Doodson Cup.

The magpies went out of the Doodson Sportscup last night as they were beaten 3-2 by FC United Of Manchester at VictoryPark in front of a crowd of 830.

The mapies were 2-0 down at half time withNorton and a Wayne Maden own goal. Andy Russell pulled one back for the magpiesbefore Dean Porter gave away a penalty which Dean Stott converted. Wayne Madenmade it 3-2 7 minutes to play but the magpies were unable to find a 3^rd.

Next up for the magpies is a trip to Frickley Athletic on Saturday.

To getto this stage of the cup Chorley beat Salford 2-1 at Moor Lane, while FC Unitedwere victorious over 2-0 over the league’sbasement club Burscough at Stormy Corner.

Thereare no ex magpies in the FC United team and there are no ex FC United in the Chorley squad.

magpies beat Ferriby in front of bumper crowd

Chorley fc strengthened their grip on 4^thplace as they beat Humberside North Ferriby United 2-0 in front of a bumpercrowd at Victory Park.

The crowd was boosted by the visiting offans from Blackburn Rovers as a good number of them decided not to make thetrip to St James Park to support their team in the FA Cup but chose to make thejourney across Lancashire to support Chorley.

The magpies started the brighter using thepace of Denham and Foster to get behind the Ferriby backline when they couldbut the majority of play was in the middle of the park with Jamie Vermgilio andSteve Flitcroft pulling the strings for the magpies.

The magpies took the lead on 12 minutesChris Denham broke free from a lovely pass from Roscoe before squaring to hisstrike partner Steve Foster who knocked it back to Denham for him to strokepast Steve Wilson in the Ferriby goal.

The magpies could extended their lead anumber of times in the first half Chris Denham had a long ranger effort whichsailed over the bar and Andy Teague saw a header from a Ince corner cleared offthe line.

Before Jamie Vermgilio tried a cheeky lobfrom just outside the box but unlike the Marine keeper, Wilson managed to stopit from going into the back off the net.

Meanwhile Russ Saunders and his backlinewere hardly tested as despite having talisman Gary Bradshaw up front thevisitors were unable offer much in terms of attack, the only attack of note inthe first half was when Bradshaw had a 25 yard driver deflected wide ofSaunders goal.

The second half turned out to be a drabaffair the first real note of the second half came on 56 minutes when JohnCunliffe, who was starting his first game of the season, came off for MattWalwyn.

Adam Rosoce nearly headed in a Tom Incecorner before Chris Denham 30 yard pass to Steve Foster, who uncharacteristicheaded wide. As the magpies went seeking that second goal.

Meanwhile Gary Bradshaw had a chance tobreak free being Maddo to a long ball but the big center back managed to keeppace with him before Russ Saunders smothered the ball from Bradshaw’s feet.

Their only other chance was then a longrange effort was blasted over the top of the duke street end stand following arare attacking free kick for the visitors.

Ahmadi Proya was brought on for SteveFoster with 4 minutes to go and it was the new lad who set up the winner.

He raced the full back to the byline beforepulling back and it seemed that with no magpie in sight that the attack wasover but as the ball was to be cleared Matt Walwyn turned his back for theclearance to smack him on the back and trickle into the net to confirm thethree points for the magpies.

Other result went the magpies way barChester winning at Rushall. Tuesday opponents FC United, in the Doodson Cup,were beaten by Stafford Rangers.

Rovers fans swap the FA cup for Evo-Stik

Today a number of Blackburn Rovers fans attended the Chorley v North Ferriby United game as the magpies won 2-0 (report to come later). Around 100-200 Rovers fans made the trip from East Lancashire to raise funds for the Magpies instead of making the trip up to the North East to watch their FA cup tie at Newcastle United. Everyone seemed to have a good day as Rovers and Chorley fans mixed together singing both Rovers and Chorley songs.

After the game Garry Flitcroft thanked the Blackburn fans for coming and for the atmosphere they created with the Chorley fans to help the lads win.

On the 7^th January Chorley fc play host to NorthFerriby United in the Evo-stik Premier division. But Victory Park will also beplaying host to a Number of Blackburn Rovers supporters.

Fansof the premier league club have chosen that on the 7^th instead ofmaking the trip to St James Park to watch their side face Newcastle United inthe FA Cup they will make the trip to Chorley to protest against the clubowners the Venky’s and to raise some money for Chorley fc.

Themagpies have been faced with financial problems and Blackburn currently onefrom bottom of the Premier league and face selling their major stars in orderto bring any new players.

Theidea of helping the magpies came about by a suggestion on the Blackburn RoversSupporters site. The following was originally posted on the site

‘Chorley FC are in danger of going into administration, not our problem Iknow, but a few rovers old boys are leading the charge to save the club, GaryFlitcroft and Matt Jansen are two key members, they need £20000 to save ChorleyFC, if between us, could we get 2000 protesters? I'm just thinking how much itwould help as a show of defiance for 2000 rovers fans to turn up at Chorley FCnext home match in blue and white, black and yellow, donating £10.00 per personto save chorley? The media coverage would be massive, and it would in essenceshow Venkys that just for one day we can spend £20000 elsewhere. Alternativelywe can set up a paypal account and get donations to build this fund? It showswhat type of community Rovers supporters are, and its a massive cause too,’

The idea took hold quite quickly andit was agreed that the Magpies game on the 7^th was the game toattend instead of going up to Newcastle despite their recent change in formwith a draw at Liverpool and a win at Old Trafford although they were broughtback down to earth with a bump by losing 2-1 at home to Stoke City fc.

It is expected there will be a largenumber of fan attending on Saturday and coaches are being laid on for theBlackburn fans attending costing £3 to get on the bus.

Magpies start 2012 with a bang

Chorley fc kicked started 2011 with afantastic 4-2 win over fellow promotion rivals Marine AFC at the Arriva Stadiumin an action packed game.

Garry had to make some changes to the sideas Andy Russell replaced Andy Teague and Jamie Vermgilio returned to replacethe injured Dale Whitham.

The magpies started the better and couldhave been ahead in the first minute of the game as Chris Denham broke free butfailed to get the ball out of his feet due to a bobble and the chance had gone.

Marine started to come into the gameplaying long ball boycotting the midfield to for ex magpie Aaron Ray and NeilHarvey, who is a constant thorn in the magpie’s side. But with the wind goingagainst them it was hard for the ball to find their target for Marine.

The first goal of the game came on twentyminutes when a long ball was sent through and tricky winger Tom Ince volleyedin past Marine captain and keeper Ryan McMahon to put the magpies ahead.

Not long after the goal Neil Harveysprinted through but as he was about to pull the trigger, keeper Russ Saunderssnatched the ball away from Harvey’s feet.

24 minutes in and a 22 man brawl broke outensured when Russell gave away a free kick and Jamie Vermgilio was pushed overat this point it all kicked off and the result was that ref Peter Goochdismissed Thomas Moore of Marine and cautioned Jamie Vermgilio.

The sending off saw the magpies push onwith Foster and Denham both going close to doubling the lead. But couldn’t findthe way past McMahon.

With 4 minutes to go until half time andAaron Ray won the hosts a penalty and Neil Harvey stepped up to send RussSaunders the wrong way to equalize for Marine.

The second half started with Marine makingone change to their side Sam Barnes replacing Joe Fowler, who had a beencautioned during the first half and need to be subbed off before sent off.

Chris Denham then won the magpies a penaltyon the 53 minute when he went on a run at the Marine defense before Matty Brownpushed Denham over resulting in a penalty and a booking for Matty which SteveFoster dispatched it as he always dose to restore the magpies lead.

Andy Russell, returning to starting lineup, was on hand to make a big challenge to stop Aaron Ray from advancing intothe Chorley box.

But no one was hand to stop Aaron Ray as heturned in unmarked in the six-yard box to level the scoring up once again forthe hosts on 68 minutes.

A few minutes later and the magpies wentahead in what could only be described as bizarre circumstances on 71 minuteswhen the magpies were awarded a free kick on the halfway line Mark Ross took inpumping it towards the box but it got caught in the wind and beat Ryan McMahonfor 3-2 Chorley.

A minute later and the lead was doubledwhen Chris Denham latched onto a Foster through ball and fired home from closerange to send the magpies into delight.

Foster picked up a yellow card for an offthe ball incident which seemed rather harsh before Denham was withdrawn withspeedy winger Matt Walwyn coming on and Vermgilio was also brought off forProya neither of the two had much time to make an impact.

The result brought joy to the magpies and agreat win to kick start 2012.

A end of the year

Well another year has passed us- where doestime go and this blog will be entering into its third year- WOW, When I set upRedcardreco in the summer of 2009 I never thought I would of kept it runningfor so long and the amount of joy I have enjoyed, it has given me a platform toshowcase my work in terms of match reporting, not the best but I think I amgoing to change my style in 2012 in how I cover games so we may see somechanges.

But here are some highlights I have hadthis year- starting off with the big obvious one promotion. When I look back tothat night in May when Steve Foster and Jack Dorney scored the goals to beatAFC Fylde and Andy Teague lifted that vase- I am quite proud to say I was thereand to be a Chorley fan, I think even if we had lost the game I would still beproud to say I am a Magpie.

The second highlight is going toUniversity- as you are more then likely aware I am at Staffordshire Universitynow and I have to say I love every minute of it- it is all thanks to my peopleI have met there- they have made it a lovely start to Uni life and I hope thatit can be kept going in 2012.

Going back to Camelot was another personaldelight to be recalled to a job and I have just finished filling out the formto go back in 2012. Although I am a bit keen and dated it as the 31/12/12 opps.

Passing my driving test- well it is a bitof a personal thing passing your driving test abiet being a second time passer.On the first test I nearly took out a BMW wing mirror my instructor wasn’treally impressed but at least I did it in style and passed second time roundironically with the same examiner.

My final highlight of 2011 has to bewatching Stoke play in Europe- I know a lot will question me on why it is ahighlight but since I have moved to Stoke I been taken over by the Potters andyou cannot dislike them really despite what people say and hopefully me andsome uni mates will be getting tickets for their last 32 home leg againstValencia.

2011 has of course had it is lowlight but Idon’t really want to dwell on them- so my main two lowlights are the amount ofChorley games I have been to this season so far- I have seem to turn up sincebeing at uni we have not won. Also if affects the running of the blog because Idon’t think I could give you a clear picture of a game in the match reports Iwrite if I wasn’t there, I am looking at new ways to boost the content on thisblog for 2012 hopefully some more feature writing (however I do most my featurewriting for a site called its round and its white). Also our current positionin the financial terms- I know it is not the best but here is hoping for abetter 2012 with the money.

2012 is promised to bring much to England-can England succeeded in the euros? A semi final place would be nice and not togo out in a shootout against the Germans. Also the Olympics is coming toEngland and that means more football so hopefully maybe able to cover a bit ofthat next year.

Finally 2011 we have lost a number ofpeople- football lost Gary Speed, theobvious name- a great player and a had a bright future as the Wales manager.Also we lost Richard Butcher at the start of the new year to heart problems,Lee Pryers, ex Chorley and Bamber Bridge, who was found dead in his flat in thesummer, Socrates, the Brazilian legend who had a spell at Garforth Town. Thereis many other legends who have passed away this year- Joe Fraizer, Sir henryCopper. There are no doubt I have missed a number of other people who will bejoining us in 2012 and so I apologies for this.

All it is left for me to do now is to wisheveryone a happy and safe 2012.

The Champions for a 19th time Manchester United

2011 has been a great, thrilling, fullof controversy in term of football. Manchester United made history in a numberof ways, Blackpool entertained the premier league, and Manchester City finallywon a trophy. Players have every weekend have graced the field in a number ofleagues across the giving us the show that we want. Here is what has stood outin the memories of football.

Some highlights

Sir Alex Ferguson 25 years not out.

In November of this year Sir AlexFerguson celebrated 25 years of management at Manchester United. The scot tookover Manchester United in 1985 and actually lost his first game 2-0 away atOxford United. But 25 years on the Reds beat Sunderland at Old Trafford 1-0thanks to an own goal from former Red Devil Wes Brown. To some this milestoneit is not major but for a lot it is a celebration of the world’s greatestmanager.

Sixinthecity

Was 23^rd October 2011 theday the world realized that Manchester City were serious in their bid for titlecontenders as they swept away their Manchester rivals 6-1 at Old Trafford.Balotelli (2), Aguero, Dzeko (2) and Silva with the goals. Darren Fletcherscoring for United. The loss really hurt the reds, Sir Alex came out and said‘there’s a lot of embarrassment in the dressing room and quite rightly so’.City (at the time of writing still sit top of the league) and United areunbeaten since that day. Who knows what will happen in 2012 but it will beinteresting.

Ross Hannah 52 goals in a season

This one was submitted to me bynon-league fan James Griffiths, who supports Evo-stik Northern premier leagueside Matlock Town. It concerns his team’s striker Ross Hannah who during thecourse of the 2010-2011 season he manage to net 52 times beating a record heldby Bobby Mountain who scored 49 goals at Alferton Town. Ross completed hishat-trick on the final day of the season scoring the perfect hat-trick againstMatlock’s big rivals Buxton fc. Ross in the summer earned a move to BradfordCity fc. But in scoring such high figures you cannot forget Lionel Messi whohas netted 53 goals in 55 games for Barca. Whatever level of football you playit is always handy if you have a goal machine like these two players.

United 19

Manchester United overtook Liverpool fcin terms of most win of the English top division with 19 wins to Liverpool’s 18as United drew at Blackburn. King Kenny made his return to Anfieldin the new year and was handed the baptism of fire for his first- an trip toOld Trafford in the FA Cup and despite going out to a penalty from Ryan Giggs,King Kenny saved the club from the surprising possibility of relegation to asixth place finish. In his first full season Kenny has led his troops to a semifinal place in the Carling Cup and looks set to led Liverpool back into Europe.

Many people will question my inclusionof Tony Pulis. But it has been a great year for the Welshmen as he led hisside- Stoke City to Wembley for the FA Cup final, after beating BoltonWanderers 5-0 in the Semi final but went down 1-0 to Manchester City. But itwasn’t to matter as the Blues had already qualified for the Champions League.It meant that the Potters went on a Europa league adventure qualifying for thegroup stages the potters qualified for the last 32 to spare with a draw at hometo Dynamo Kiev but a lose in Turkey meant they finished runners up in theirgroup and they could possibly go all the way if they keep the players fit.

RIP Gary Speed

2011 we said goodbye to a number of peopleacross football in January we lost Macclesfeild’s Richard Butcher, who died ofheart problems. We also lost the Bolton legend Nat Lofthouse, he is probablyone of the most famous people to pull on a trotters shirt ever. February sawthe loss of former Wolves and Tottenham Dean Richards, who passed at the age of36. 2011 also saw the lose of Brazilian legend Socrates, Socrates had a spellat Garforth Town a few years ago and died of a septic shock. But the death thatreally shook the footballing world was the death of the Wales boss Gary Speed, whocommitted suicide at his family home 24 hours after appearing on BBC footballfocus and there was nothing to suggest what was going through Gary’s head.Tributes poured in from all in the footballing world and effected many- AstonVilla keeper and former team mate of Gary at Newcastle, Shay Given broke downin tears during an minutes silence at Swansea v Aston Villa before the game.Robbie savage, an international team mate with Wales, had to hold back tearsduring an interview on BBC.

Welbeck startedthe scoring on 22 minutes before Ashley Young double it on 28, Rooney got hisfirst for the day on 41 before getting his second and united 4^th on64, Nani made it 5 on 67, Park Ji-Sung made it 6 on 70 minutes, Rooneycompleted his hat-trick from the spot on 82 minutes and Ashley Young wrapped itup a minute in stoppage time while Van Persie and Walcott scored for thegunners on a bad for Arsenal.

FA Cup semi final are normally tightaffairs but this one wasn’t as the Potters ran riot over the Trotters atWembley stadium Matt Etherington open the scoring on 11 minutes, before RobertHuth made it 2 on 17minutes Jones made it 3 after half an hour.Before a second half brace from Jon Walters put Stoke on cloud 5. But what goesaround comes around as in the new season the reunion of these teams at theReebox the Trotters put in a 5 star performance as they were 5-0 winners withgoals from Chris eagles (2), Ivan kalsnic (2) and one from Davies healed someof Bolton’s wounds from that day at Wembley.

Some of the Chorley fc fans away at FC United

Chorley fc had a rather quite month playing 4games winning 2 drawing 1 and losing 1 game.

First up was a trip to Gigg Lane as theyfaced FC United of Manchester backed by a good away following the magpies leftthe Gigg with a point in a 0-0 draw despite having Chris Denham sent off for asecond bookable offence.

The magpies were then due to face old foesBamber Bridge in the Lancashire cup but due to a waterlogged pitch the game wasput back a week.

The magpies then hosted Cheshire sideNantwhich Town at Victory Park. The magpies won 1-0 thanks to a Steve Fostergoal as the leading marksman expertly volleyed home and despite a nervous lastfew minutes the magpies hung on for all three points.

The trip to Bamber Bridge went ahead thefollowing Tuesday and in front of a low crowd of 197 the magpies ripped theirold foes apart with Chris Denham scoring a brace on 16 and 25 minutes. Thefirst coming from a perfect Dale Whitham cross and Whitham also made the secondwith a great through ball. Steve Foster made it 3 on 49 minutes when Denhamturned provider and crossed in for Fossie to net. Jordan Bowen got the 4^thwith 5 minutes to go after going 1 on 1 he lobbed the Brig keeper for 4 and toput the magpies through to next round of the cup.

A trip to Bradford PA were next on theagenda but a frozen pitch meant that the tie had to be called off- a new datefor the game hasn’t been announced yet.

The magpie’s final game of 2011 came onBoxing Day as they hosted Kendal Town in the Cakes Derby. The first half was apoor performance by the magpies and were 3-0 down at half time with goals fromWisdom, Gray and a Mark Ross own goal. The Steve Foster made it 3-1 when he Cooleynetted from a lovely John Cunliffe pass and Dale Whitham turned inside the sixyard box before firing home for 3-2. But it wasn’t to be enough as Kendal heldon firmly for all three points.

So a quite month of December for themagpies but January is a busy one, which start with a visit to Marine on the 2^ndJan.

Chorley end 2011 with a lose

Chorley fc ended 2011 with a 3-2 lose toKendal Town as the magpies were absolutely mint caked.

The magpies went into the game unbeaten intheir last 5 and were looking to make it 6 while Kendal were enduring a pooraway form having only won once on their travels since September so on paper ithad to be a home win surely.

The first chance of the day fell to AdamRoscoe as an Andy Teague knocked on afree kick but the winger’s shot was that off target it went out for a throw into Kendal.

Steve foster was then penalized for a tripas Kendal started to get into their stride mainly through former Chorley ladJordan Connerton, who is on loan at Kendal from football league side CreweAlexander.

Wayne Maden played another great game atthe back for the magpies and made a number of vital blocks in particular on 15minutes he stopped Danny Willams going through on goal with a crucialinterception.

The first goal of the game came on 18minutes when the ball was played towards the byline it was pulled back forDanny Wisdom to tap in at the back stick for 1-0 to Kendal.

It was 2-0 to the Visitors on 28 minuteswith Kendal taking over the Chorley half they forced a corner on the right handside that was sung in. Russ Saunders gota fist to it but was volleyed in by Shaun Gray. The visitors were quickly going out of sight for the magpies.

It got even worse for the magpies on 38minutes when Danny Wisdom danced his way through the Chorley back line beforesliding the ball past Suanders. Mark Ross slide back to clear off the line butonly managed in knocking the ball into the net for 3-0.

Tom Ince tried a Volley from an Adam Roscoecorner that flew well wide of the goal. But the magpies were not in the gameat.

At half time Garry must have had somestrong words to say as the team came out for the second half and played likethey wanted to win it.

The magpies seemed to be the better side inthe second half with a number of players, mainly, Mark Ross playing in a numberof high ball but Craig Dootson and his defense were controlling everything.

The game really picked up when Garry madehis first change bringing off Matt Walwyn to be replaced by John Cunliffe whomade a huge impact on the game.

One of John first touch was a nicelyweighed passed nutmeging one defender finding Steve Foster racing through.Fossie still had a lot of work to do but he made it look so easy beatingDootson to bring the magpies back into the game.

Chorley were then award a free kick about10 yards outside the Kendal area upstepped Adam Roscoe who shot went just wideof Dootson’s goal.

Dale Whitham pulled it back to 3-2 when hemanage to turn inside the six yard box and fire in from close range but he hurthimself in the act of scoring and had to be subbed off with new boy AhmadiProya replacing him.

Big defender Andy Russell was thrown on forMark Ross in an attempt to find the equalizer and the first free kick wasfloated into towards his head but he couldn’t manage to get it on target.

Five minutes were added on and Chorley wona corner which was floated in towards the near post but the ref had blown upfor a foul on Craig Dootson who was then book for timewasting claiming, not forthe first time, that he didn’t know were the ball was after Andy Russell wentand retrieved it for him.

The result still leaves the magpies in 4^thplace. The Magpies are next on the 2^nd January 2012 as Chorley visit5^th place Marine AFC kick off is at 3pm.

November saw the magpies play 7 gameswinning 3, drawing 2 and losing 2.

The first game saw the magpies make thetheir first ever trip to Wallsall as the took on Rushall Olympic at Dales Lane.Despite all the chances and possession the magpies had they couldn’t find awayto scoring and Ahmed Obeng some how beatRuss Suanders on 23 minutes to steal all three points.

Next up for the magpies was a trip to Moorlane as they faced Salford City in the third round of the Doodson Cup. Themagpies went ahead from a rare goal from Simon Whaley on 56 minutes beforeGavin Salmon equalized from the spot. But Dale Whitham put the magpies throughas he put the magpies ahead again with 7 minutes to go.

Next up was Stocksbridge Park Steels atVictory Park on Derain Day as the magpies raised money for the childrenhospices. But the magpies had two goals ruled out and penalty appeals denied asthe magpies were held to a 0-0 draw.

The Lancashire CO-OP challenge trophysecond round was next on the agenda for the magpies as Chorley hosted AshtonAthletic at Victory Park. The magpies went on the rampage as were 1-0 up in 4minutes when Chris Denham volleyed in a Simon Whaley cross, they were 2 up on16 minutes when new boy Jordan Bowen capitalized on a mistake by former Chorleykeeper Jamie Scott. Dale Whitham made it 3 ten minutes when Jordan squared theball to Dale who put it into an empty net. Ashton pulled one back when BradCooke hit a deflected shot past Dean Porter. But the comeback didn’t reallyhappen when Simon Whaley made it 4 stabbed the ball in just before theinterval. It was 5 on 71 minutes when hit-man Steve Foster turned in a TomWalker cross from close range. Flitcroft JNR made it 6 and scored the goal ofthe game when he chipped in from 30 yards out only for his brother to bring himoff seconds later. The route was complete when Matt Walywn scored from closerange to put the magpies in the next round.

The magpies then made the trip to SouthStaffordshire as they took on Hednesford Town, who hadn’t been beaten at homefor 14 months in the league. The magpies made a bright start but were quick togo behind when Wayne Maden and Russ Saunders were caught in a mix up and GaryHay made it 1-0. The magpies then lost Matt Walwyn to an injury, the magpiesmade an attempt to level it up but in the second half Gary Hay’s header beatSuanders and Hednesford took all three points.

Next up for the magpies was a trip toleague leaders Northwhich Victoria and the magpies put in one of their bestperformance so far this season. The magpies went ahead on 7 minutes throughSteve Foster from a Mark Ross long throw in. It was two on 28 minutes when AllyBrown charged at the Vics back line before hitting a cross to Adam Roscoe whosteered the ball in for 2-0. Chris Denham made it 3 when he hit an unstoppableshot past from 25 yards. Northwhich pulled one back with the last kick of thegame when ex-magpie Kyle Armstrong netted from the Spot.

The last game of the month saw Whitby Townvisit Victory park and surprisingly went ahead in the first minute when JimmyBeadle hit a shot from 45 yards out and it beat Russ Saunders, before JamieClark made it 2-0 to the visitors when he tapped in from inside the box. Athalf time Garry must have had some strong words to say and the magpies came outfighting for the second half and pulled one back through Wayne Maden just afterthe hour when the defender knocked in an Andy Teague header which hit thecrossbar. Steve Foster leveled the scoring when Steve Foster raced clear andlobbed the keeper for 2-2 and save a point for the magpies.

Bradford Park Avenue v Chorley

Chorley left Gigg Lane with a credible 0-0draw against FC United of Manchester.

Flittys men put the off field troubles toone side and gave a spirited performance which was cheered on by a sizeablevocal away following in the Cemetery end.

Both teams looked shaky early on with bothgiving away possession far too easily with weak sloppy passes but the firstchance came from FC United as Carlos Roca set left back Lee Neville gallopingpast Mark Ross and pulling it back for Astley Mullholland who fired wide ofRuss Saunders goal.

The magpies suffered a major blow on 20minutes when midfield dynamo Jamie Vermgilio had to be replaced by Tom Willams.

Micheal Norton was then presented with agift by Saunders his weak goal kick was picked up by the former Curzon man andhe rounded Saunders but did a Torres and hitting the side netting.

Chorley first chance came not long afterthe change when a long kick by Russ Saunders finding Dale Whitham who sent Chris Denham on his way through one on onewith James Spencer but he could only drag his shot wide of the target despitethe Chorley fans had thought Denham had scored.

Chris Denham then had to force Spencer intoa great save when after some nice passing moves by Rosoce and Willams theyfound Chris just outside the fc box and his shot was saved one handy diving todeny the magpies again.

Greg Stones then gave away a Chorley freekick, which saw Adam Roscoe hit the bar, which was the magpie’s last chance ofthe half.

The second half started with magpies makinganother change- skipper Andy Teague had to be withdrawn and replace by AndyRussell.

Spencer denied Denham again as he saw hisgood shot pushed away by the former Northwhich keeper.

In what became stormy weather conditions thegame was starting to peter out into a draw but the Chorley fans were leftreeling midway through the second half when James Spencer seemed to slid outwith ball in his clutches but the linesmen and referee where in a good positionfailed to spot it.

Wayne Maden had his best game sincereturning from winning everything in the air and being a rock in front of RussSaunders, but at the other end Maddo had free header in the box but it wentwell wide of the goal.

Shelton Payne, who has returned from hisloan spell at Hyde came on for Steve Foster and had a couple of powerful runsdown the wing but despite his efforts they didn’t come to any thing.

Chris Denham’s game came to a abrupt end asgoing through in the box he lost control and attempted to win a penalty with adive but the ref saw the dive and gave Chris a second yellow card.

Stoke progress inn the Europa league

Stoke City neededa late equalizer from striker Kenwyne Jones to qualify into the knock outstages of the Europa League.

The potters onlyneeded a point to seal their place in the knock out rounds while a lose wouldof meant they needed something from their final game, a tough tie away atTurkish club Besiktas on match day six.

Kiev, could ofstole into 2^nd place with a win and Besiktas not to win there game,started the brighter side as Stoke looked the tired side that has only had onewin in November.

It was Kiev whohad the brighter start and the first shot on goal when Oleksandr Ailev tried ashot but Asmir Begovic, made a routine save.

Stoke werelackluster in their play and allowed their visitors to play some of the bestgame with most of their best chances coming from Aliyev who trickery causedproblems for Danny Higginbottom at right back.

It was nosurprise that the opening goal came to Dynamo Kiev, which came in the from ofan own goal from Stoke skipper for the night Matthew Upson.

A great ball fromYarmolenko, which split open the Potters backline, to allow Aliyve to have apowerful low shot which was diverted into the net by the England center backdespite the best efforts of Begovic.

Former Chelseaplayer Andriy Shevchenko should of made it 2-0 but he could only slice his shotagainst the outside of the post but the half time scored was 1-0 to the visitors.

The second halfstarted with Tony Pulis men started to waken up with Wilson Palacios latchingonto a Rory Delap ball only to force the keeper Shovkoskiy into a fine save.

Moments laterJermaine Pennant saw his shot cleared off the line as Stoke were on the up andDynamo couldn’t handle them.

But time wasrunning out and Stoke still hadn’t found that goal, boss Tony Pulis told PeterCrouch to get ready for coming on.

But as Crouchystood waiting on the touchline Jermaine Pennant swung in a lovely right wingcross and Kenwyne Jones lost his marker and his powerful header found the backof the net to level the scoring.

Magpies held at home

Chorley fc had to come from 2 goals behindto salvage a point against the leagues basement club Whitby Town.

Garry named the same team, which beatleague leaders Northwhich Victoria in midweek and Flitty was hoping that hismen could put in the same performance against the Seasiders.

But the magpies got off to the worstpossible start you could imagine as on two minute Whitby was awarded a freekick on the half way line, no danger here but the free kick was taken short toJimmy Beadle who, for the second time in four days, found the back of the netwith a 45 yard strike which flew over Russ Saunders head.

It really knocked the stuffing out of themagpies as there passing was poor and unable to pick anyone in a home shirtout.

The only real chance the magpies got in thefirst half was when midfield workhorse Jamie Vermgilio has a rasping shot atTom Courtney’s goal and was heading in for an equalizer but Courtney managed toget across and push it out for a corner which came to nothing.

The visitors went 2-0 up when a free kickwas swept into the Chorley box and somehow cause panic before Jamie Clarkeknocked it past Saunders for 2-0.

Half time came and no doubt Garry had somestrong words for the lackluster performance by the players.

The effect seemed to be a positive one asthe magpies came out fighting in the second half although the catalyst camefive minutes after the restart when Garry decided to switch to a 4-3-3 bringingoff his brother Steve and replacing him with Chris Denham and Tom Walkerreplacing Mark Ross.

Shortly after Adam Roscoe hit a dippingvolley from just outside of the area which flew just millimeters past the postas the magpies faithful started to believe that it was not to be there day.

But just after the hour the magpies wereback in the game when Andy Teague saw his well timed header hit the bar from aTom Ince free kick only for it to fall kindly to his center back partner WayneMaden prodded in the rebound.

It sparked the magpies fully back into lifeas they started to believe they could win the tie.

Vermgilio, who had another fine game, hadanother chance of getting a goal but his burst into the area saw his hit shotover the bar.

But 13 minute later the magpies were not tobe denied as Steve Foster was put through and hit one of his trademark lobsover the keeper to make it 2-2 and sheer relief for the magpies now it was timeto get a winner.

And the magpies had a good chance with sixminutes injury time to play, most of the time was due to a nasty Tom Walker injuryand he had to be stretchered off. The magpies forced a late goal mouth scramblewhich resulted in mayhem and it seemed that the magpies had forced the ballover the line by a good two feet but the linesman adjudged that the ball didn’tcross the line much to the disbelief of Adam Roscoe who led the protests.

The late goal would have been harsh onWhitby who battled so bravely but for the magpies it is a real case of twopoints dropped and need a performance now next Saturday as they visit FC UnitedOf Manchester at Gigg Lane.

Pitmen sink the magpies

After midweek’s delight of scoring 7 pastAshton Athletic, Chorley fc were brought down back to earth with a 2-0 loseaway at Hednesford Town.

Only defenders Ally Brown and Wayne Madenkept their place in the starting 11 from Tuesday night’s game as the magpieslooked to end the host’s 14 month unbeaten home run in the league.

The visitors started brightly, beingcheered on by a strong army of travelling fans, the main threat coming fromstriker Matt Waylwn who’s pace cause problems for the Pitmen’s defence for thefirst 45 minutes but couldn’t find away past Crane in the Hednesford goal andcould of scored in the first five minutes when he was about to pull the triggeronly to have the ball nicked off him.

Hednesford slowly worked their way into thegame playing long balls out wide to the wing. Looking at getting their speedywingers of Osburne and Campion on the ball. But the back four of Ross, Maden,Teauge and Brown managed to keep them out.

Hednesford should of scored on 15 minuteswhen a corner to the host was only headed away as far as Chris Shaw, who’svolley from 25 yards flew over the crossbar and out of the ground.

Hednesford thought they had scored on 25minutes when a free kick was whipped in before being headed in but Mr Brown hadalready blown his whistle for a foul on Andy Teague.

Hednesford took the lead on 38 minutes whena mix up between Maden and Saunders on the edge of the Chorley area allowedGary Hay to steal in and slot the ball into the empty net.

The last action of the first half was whenMatt Waywln burst through on goal only to see his shot saved by Crane. As hismomentum took him forward he seem to strain his thigh resulting him beinghelped off the pitch at half time.

Matt didn’t come back out for the secondhalf as Tom Willams replaced him as Chorley went looking for an equalizer.

Just after half time Tom Ince won a free kick,which was played into the box but was headed away by the resolute Hednesforddefence.

A large delay was then ensured when acorner came in that saw big Andy Teague go up for a challenge with thegoalkeeper leaving both players needing medical attention.

Just afterwards Tom Willams linked up wellwith Jamie Vermgilio before seeing his shot from distance fly wide of the goal.

21 minutes into the second half and thegame was effectively won as sub Mark Danks, who was part of the Nortwhich teamwho beat Charlton on ITV, beat Ali Brown before whipping his cross in for GaryHay to head in his second and double the Pitmen lead.

Hay could have got his hat-trick whenSuanders weak clearance fell to him but his shot missed the empty net much tothe relief of Saunders.

6 minutes of injury time went up but themagpies couldn’t take advantage to try and score even just one.

The result sees the teams switch places inthe league with the magpies falling to 4^th. Next up for the magpiesa trip to Cheshire as they face league leaders Northwhich Victoria on Tuesdaynight kick off 7:45pm.

Bad day at the office at Matlock

The month of October has been a busy onewith Chorley playing six games winning 3, losing 2 and drawing 1.

First up was Burscough at Victory Park, theday started well for the magpies with Lee McEvilly opening up from the spot on11 minutes, but Mark Bessley sent a peach of a free-kick in to make it 1-1 on25 minute before the winner came for the magpies thankfully on 90 minutes withShelton Payne breaking through and slotting home to save the magpies blushes.

Next up was a trip to Matlock Town a tough tripwas expected but the magpies weren’t at the races on the day and were thumped4-0 by the gladiators, it was a bad trip as the supporters coach didn’t get tothe ground until after kick off.

A late night for the magpies was next up asRushall made their first ever trip to Chorley, an accident on the M6 meant thatthe visitors didn’t arrive at the ground until late meaning the game could onlykick off at 8:30pm and thankfully the late kick off didn’t stop the magpies doing what they do bestgrinding out a 1-0 win Steve Foster the hero with the goal on 50 minutes with aheader.

Next up to Victory park was Tamesideoutfit- Ashton United, again the magpies got off to a good start with SteveFoster netting after 8 minutes but former magpie Peter Wright leveled thescoring 10 minutes, new boy Matt Waylwan resorted the magpies lead just beforethe hour and the points looked to be staying in Lancashire till the last minuteof injury time when Matthew Kosylo netted to share a spoil of the points.

The magpies then went to Liverpool to faceMarine in the FA Trophy and with the tie looking to be heading to a replayMarine won it with 15 minutes to go with Matt Brown netting for the hosts.

The final game of the month and what athriller at Mickleover Sports it was themagpies went 2-0 down quickly and looked like it would be another Derbyshirehorror day but Andy Russell pulled on back on 41 minutes only for Mickelover tomake it 3-1 stright away. Outcame the magpies for the second half and what everMr Flitcroft had said it had worked as Steve Foster netted from the spot 2minutes into the second half before Adam Roscoe made it 3-3 2 minutes afterthat the magpies fans had a chance to breath before Matt Waylwn made it 4-3with 15 minutes to go- mission accomplished and one of the best comeback sinceby Chorley.

So that was October for you hopefully Novemberwill be the same.

Chorley’s home match on Saturday against Sheffield-based Stocksbridge Park Steels has been designated ‘Derian Day’.

It’s all part of the town’s football club’s commitment to support and raise funds for the local children’s hospice during the current season. The message to families in Chorley and surrounding districts is ‘Get down to Victory Park on Saturday afternoon for some fun and hopefully an exciting game of football!’ As a special concession, all children with an accompanying adult will be admitted free.

Among the attractions will be face-painting for the children and there will be a penalty shoot-out at half-time between the mascots Derian Dog and Victor Magpie. Pudsey Bear is also expected to put in an appearance – but on this occasion he’ll be supporting Derian House. A bucket collection on behalf of the hospice will also be taken during the match.

Magpies’ manager Garry Flitcroft is right behind the venture. ‘We set out at the beginning of the season to back Derian House and we are fully committed to honouring that promise. The players are proud to have the hospice logo on their shirts and our pre-season visit to Derian House inspired us all to do our very best to support such a wonderful facility in any way we can. I hope many local families will come down to Victory Park on Saturday afternoon and enjoy themselves, while at the same time helping to raise significant funds for Derian House.’

It wasn’t a day to remember for Chorley fcas the magpies were beaten 1-0 on their first trip to Dales Lane, home ofRushall Olympic FC.

Garry kept the same starting 11 that wonthe thrilling 4-3 contest at Mickleover hoping that the lads would be able toreproduce the second half performance which saw them steal the points inDerbyshire.

Both teams had a pretty even start on thesloping pitch as both teams failed to find there way into the game. The magpieshad a couple of chances through Matt Jansen but they were pretty routine savesfor the Rushall stop stopper.

Then one of the strangest things infootball then happened on 15 minutes when as Rushall were awarded a throw in,well inside the Chorley half the referee suddenly stopped play much to thebewilderment of the 257 fans present before it was revealed to be some Dog Muckwas left on the pitch and it was left to back up keeper Dean Porter to be thehero of the moment as he removed the offending item and allow the match tocontinue.

Rushall went ahead on 24 minutes when across seemed to of caused no trouble forthe magpies and it fell to Tom Walker who slipped as he was clearing the ball,with it falling to Rushall hotshot AhmedObeng, who smashed the ball past RossSaunders.

Obeng had a chance to double his tally buthis volley flew wide of Saunders’s goal.

Tempers frayed on 44 minutes as analtercation between the Rushall number 11 and Jamie Vermgilio resulted inhandbags before the pair was booked along with Steve Foster, who was trying toact as peacemaker.

The final chance of the half fell to themagpies when a corner from the left half hand side was sent towards the edge ofthe area to Matt Waylwn but his spectacular volley flew over the crossbar.

The second half saw the magpies completelylay siege to the Rushall goal but the back four stood firm.

First Steve Foster saw his shot saved bythe Rushall number 1, before captain Andy Teague saw his shot flash wide.

Rushall only attempt to note of the secondhalf was when Obeng had a shot tipped over by Russ Saunders.

With twelve minutes to go the magpiesweren’t giving up the fight as Adam Roscoe’s header was booted off the linebefore Tom Ince saw his shot fly over the crossbar.

The best chance of the game for the magpiescame on 90 minutes when Andy Russell rose like a salmon and headed towards thegoal but his header crashed off the crossbar and bounced away to safety.

The final chance came when Jamie Vermgilio,who had a fine game in the midfield being involved in a number of the chances, hada pop at goal himself but his shot went just wide of the goal.

The magpies were reduced to 10 men on 94minutes when Dale Whitham, a second half sub was sent off for dissent.

The result leaves the magpies third whileRushall move up to 8^th after today’s games. The magpies are inaction again on Tuesday as they visit Moor Lane, the home of Salford City forthe 3^rd round of the Doodson cup.

25 years ago the FA Cup part 1

25 years ago Sir Alex Ferguson becamemanager of Manchester United but the year 1986 would a memorable year for themagpies as in the November of the year theyknocked Wolves out of the first round of the FA Cup.

Admittedly my knowledge of the thisfantastic occasion is limited (I wasn’t around at the time and little has beenwritten that I can find) so in this post I would like pass on my thanks to Roy,Ian R, Mark Locke and John Gunn for the information that they have placed onmagpies in space (the unofficial Chorley fc forum).

The above video is the actual tie in whichthe magpies were 3-0 winners it is the only copy I can find on YouTube and itseems to of come from a Wolves season review Video but any way it is to matter.This tie took place at Bolton’s old Burnden Park ground and was the secondreplay the first took place at Burnden with the game ending 1-1, this was alsothe same outcome for the first replay at Molineux stadium before the second andfinal replay which finished as we know with a 3-0 Chorley win.

An interesting side note which comes fromthe Chorley forum MIS is that the FA Cup draw with split regionally Chorley haddraw Halifax Town (now FC Halifax Town) but a mistake had been made withDarlington been mistakenly placed in the southern draw and the entire draw hadto re done and this time the magpies were pulled out against Wolves.

Sorry there will be no match report from today's game as despite planning to attend the game I woke up with a massive cough and didn't feel right to attend.
Gutted now I didn't because despite going into the half time break 3-1 down. Our goal coming from Andy Russell. The lads rallied round to produce a 4-3 win second half goals from Steve Foster, Adam Roscoe and Matt Walywn.

The lads have another midweek off and on Saturday will make the trip to Walsall to play Rushall Olympic in an re-arranaged game. Redcardreco will hopefully be attending.

Liverpool fc progressed into the next roundof the Carling Cup following a second half double from Uruguay forward Luis Suarezat the Britannia Stadium.

With the Carling Cup being one of thelesser tournaments on the minds of themanagers, bosses Tony Pulis and Kenny Daglish made changes most notablyLiverpool skipper Steven Gerrard didn’t make the 16 while Peter Crouch wasnamed as a substitute for the Potters.

Despite these changes Liverpool started thebrighter of the two sides with strike partners Andy Carroll and Luis Suarezlinking up well, although the later was caught offside a number of times.

Stoke had their goalkeeper Thomas Sorensento thank after he made a number of fine save’s from Carroll and Suarez.

The first booking of the game went toLiverpool skipper for the night Jamie Carragher as on twenty minutes he wasinvolved in a rash challenge on Matthew Etherington, which left the potter’swinger needing medical attention.

Stoke’s first chance of note in the gamecame when Johnaton Walters latched onto a Kenwyne Jones flick on but Walters,who scored the only goal in the league game at the Britannia in September,could only send his shot agonizingly over Reina’s bar.

Before Walters then had a goal ruled outbecause of an apparent foul on Reina as Ryan Shawcross stood his ground whenthe Spanish goalkeeper came out for a punch.

The opening goal of the game came a bitagainst the run of the play when Liverpool center back Sebastain Coates playeda sloppy error which was picked up by Jonathon Walters allowing him to escapedown the right wing and played a cross just off the ground intothe six yard box. A dagger blow to the Potters but it was just reward for the reds for theirpressure.

With the Extra Time looming large,Liverpool boss Kenny Daglish threw on Craig Bellamy and the Welsh man was soonin thick of the action exchanging passes with Andy Carroll, who apart from hisattempt in the first half which was hit straight at Sorensen, he was ratherpoor once again showing that he is not really worth his £35 million transferfee which Liverpool paid for him.

The winner came with five minutes to playwhen young English winger Jordan Henderson floated in a cross to the backstick, which was headed in by, and unmarked Luis Suarez.

The drama wasn’t over as Stoke went for theequalizer by throwing on Peter Crouch right after the goal for the goal scorerJones and he could have had a penalty when he was bundled over in a goalmouthscramble but Lee Probert didn’t point to the spot and that saw Liverpool homeand dry.

In the last couple of days the draws for the Lancashire FA trophy Challenge cup and the Doodson cup took place.

The Doodson cup, formerly known as the League Challenge cup, draw saw the Magpies take on former league rivals Salford City at Moor Lane on the 8^th November.

Chorley fc head on the road to Wembley as they face a tough trip to Crosby road as they visit league rivals Marine AFC in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

Marine results in the league this season read- 1-0 win at home to Stocksbridge Park Steel on the opening day of the season, 2-1 win away at Nantwhich, 3-0 win at Worksop, 2-0 lose to Northwhich Vic 2-2 draw with Matlock Town before ending the month with a 2-1 win at Chorley, September started with a 2-1 lose at Stafford Rangers, before a 2-0 lose to Bradford PA, before a third consecutive loss this time 3-2 at home to Mickleover sports, they shook there winless run off with a emphatic 4-0 win at Buxton, before squeezing past Ashton United 1-0, they ended the month with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Kendal Town. October saw the month start with a 4-0 win at home to Worksop, before holding FC United to a 1-1 draw, they completed a double over Buxton with a 1-0 win at Crosby road on Saturday.

There are no ex Mariners in the Chorley squad following the departure of Lee McEvilly the previous week. While Marine have Aaron Rey who had a spell at Victory Park last season.

The last time the two teams faced each other was at the end of August 2011 at Victory Park. It was Chorley’s first lose of the season as a Neil Harvey double was enough to beat the magpies 2-1 with Dale Whitham getting the magpies goal. The team that day was Saunders, Meace, Walker, Teague, Russell, Fairhurst, Willams, S.Flitcroft, Whitham, Foster and Ince.

Subs were McEvilly, Whaley, Maden, Jansen and Howarth.

The Tameside outfit sit 13^th in the division with their results reading 3-0 win over Matlock Town on the opening day of the season, 1-1 draw with Stocksbridge park steel, 1-0 lose to Rushall, 3-2 win at home to Burscough, 4-2 win at Worksop, 3-1 lose at Northwhich Victoria, September started with a 1-0 lose to Frickley, followed by a 2-0 lose to Chester, a third straight lose saw them go down 2-1 at home at home to Hednesford, a 2-2 draw with Whitby Town, 1-0 lose at Marine, before ending the month with a 4-2 win over Buxton, October saw United start with a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Stafford Rangers, before another thrashing on Tuesday night this time 6-3 at the hands of North Ferriby United.

Ex Ashton players in the Chorley team is Russ Suanders. While Chris Amadi and Peter Wright are the only ex magpies in the Ashton line up.

Macca makes it 1-0 from the spot v FC United

Apologies it is late but hey ho we stillhave and it is better the nothing.

The month of September playing 7 games, 2that was in the cup.

The month started with a trip to Whitbytown on non-league day with many fans staying the weekend in Whitby a goodfollowing headed up Yorkshire and were rewarded for their long trip as a SteveFoster lob on 16 minutes were enough to give the magpies a 1-0 win. Next up forthe magpies was a game against 2^nd placed Northwhich Victoria at avery wet Victory Park. The weather was the only winner as it prevented bothteam from playing their best stuff as the game petered out into a 0-0 draw.Next up for the magpies was FC United of Manchester in one of the biggesttalked about games since the visit of Chester the previous season as FC Unitedrefused the ticket allocation of 530. Still it didn’t matter to the magpies asLee McEvilly struck home from the spot on 39 minutes after winger Adam Roscoewas upended in the box. The magpies made the points safe right after half timeas Andy Teague slammed home a fine goal give the magpies a 2-0 win. Next up forthe magpies was a trip to basement club Burscough fc, Adam Roscoe opened thescoring on 37 minutes when his bullet header found the back of the net from aTom Ince corner. It was 2 on 48 minutes when Simon Whaley curled in from theedge of the area, six minutes late and Simon had turned provider as his crossfound Roscoe for his 2^nd and Chorley’s third. Tom Ince completedrout on a couple of minutes later when he netted with a 25-yard lob. Burscoughdid pull one back but the points were heading home with Chorley. The FA cup was to start, 25 years on sincethe magpies knocked out Wolves the magpies went to Fylde after a drab 45minutes the game kicked into life when Tom Ince drilled home from just out sidethe area, but it wasn’t enough as 6 minutes later former brigger James Haywoodpounced to equalize and replay at Victory Park was the order of the day. Thereplay was a few days later at Victory Park and with the game heading topenalty’s Lee Thorpe stole it for the coaster’s to send them through and toknock the magpies out. Chorley put the cup lose behind them when theyentertained manager less Worksop Town at Victory Park. Just before half timeDale Whitham opened the scoring only for the Tigers to equalize a minute later.After half time the magpies stepped up a gear. Simon Whaley put the magpiesahead on 51 minutes before Dale Whitham made it 3-1 with 20 minutes to go andTom Willams completed the scoring getting his first goal for the magpies. Themonth ended with a massive trip as the magpies took on Chester in front of agreat crowd of 3,310 at the Excata Stadium but it didn’t go the magpies waydrawing 0-0 at half time the host gave the magpies a lesson in the second halfwith 3 great goals from Alex Brown, Matty McNeil and Wes Baynes.

So that was September for you only 1 leaguelose but it meant the magpies had to hand over the rains to top spot hopefully Octobershall pick up.

Save the Non-league show

For years it has been the driving force behind the non-league game, allowing the voice of the Non-league community to be heard but now the Non-league show faces the axe.

After the BBC decided to make cuts to its budget it was announced that the popular show on BBC London is to be taken off the schedule next year.

Presented by Caroline Barker, a self-confessed Chelmsford City fc fan, the show broadcast’s every Monday night during the footballing season bringing in fans from across the length and width of non-league England to hear the news, views and all the gossip surrounding the non-league game.

The Non-league show has also helped clubs survive or re-born thanks to the coverage given by the show, examples being Wrexham and Chester fc. Many more clubs will face going bust but will not be able to turn to the show to help boost publicity in saving them or helping them reborn if the show goes.

Fans are taking to social media once again in a protest against the proposed axe to the show. A Facebook campaign is being set up which can be found here or you can keep up to date with news on the show via the twitter account.

James Griffith’s, aka The Matlock Fan and a avid listen to the show had this to say said ‘its essential podcast material that is an enjoyable release from everyday life and has become something of a ritual after i discovered it thanks to other non league bloggers. This Tuesday the magpies are in league action at they welcome west midlands side Rushall Olympic to Victory Park in what is the battle of the first division play off winners of last season.

The magpies were promoted following a 2-0 win over AFC Fylde. While Rushall were also 2-0 winners over Grantham Town.

Chorley will be looking to get back to winnings following there 4-0 drubbing at Matlock town, which saw the magpies slip to third place in the league. While Rushall sit 8^th in the table and there results read: 1-1 draw at Chester on the opening day of the season, 1-1 draw with Mickelover Sports, 1-0 win at home to Ashton United, 2-1 win at Buxton, 1-0 lose at North Ferriby United, before ending the month with a 1-0 win at Chasetown, September started with a 0-0 draw with FC United of Manchester, before a 2-1 win over Hednesford Town, 3-0 win at Burscough, 1-1 draw with Stafford Rangers, 1-1 draw with Frickley before ending the month with a 1-0 lose to Nantwhich Town. October saw them with 3-2 at home to Whitby on Saturday.

There are no ex Pics in the Magpies team While there are no ex magpies in the Rushall team.

The game will be a bit of a landmark game between the two sides as it is the first time Chorley and Rushall have played each other- so we will of course have no report on the last time the magpies played the pics.

Gladiator's maul the magpies

Chorley fc ended a miserable week as Matlock Town thrashed Chorley 4-0 at Causeway Lane in what is Garry’s heaviest defeat as magpie boss.

Steve Foster returned for the magpies in place of Chris Denham (who had been subbed off at half time in the win over Burscough) while Shelton Payne was brought in for Lee McEvilly who was on the bench for the magpies.

From the outset Matlock were looking the better team but couldn’t find a way past the strong defence of Andy Teague and Andy Russell and when they did they found themselves unable to get past Russ Saunders.

At the other end Shelton Payne was doing all the running as he chased a number of ball down the wing in an attempt to create something but the tricky winger was often frustrated as the Gladiators had marked him out as a possible danger man and were quickly onto him and when he did get his crosses in the were normally well gathered by former Accrington Stanley and Sunderland shot stopper Jon Kennedy.

Chorley’s best chance of the day was when left back Tom Walker advanced into space down the left wing and from 25 yards out fancied his chances and aimed a shot at Kennedys goal but was deflected wide and should have been a corner to the magpies but Mr Watson decided to give a goal kick.

Matlock opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Chris Bettney hit a lovely sweet shot from just outside the area, which dipped into the far bottom corner to give the hosts the lead.

Five minutes later and Matlock were awarded a free kick in the middle of the park with Andy Teague collecting a booking, the free kick was sprayed forward by Chris Bettney and found Nathan Joynes who shook off the challenge of three magpies before firing in for 2-0.

The second half came but there were no change in the direction of play as two minutes after the re start Nathan Joynes turned and his shot past Suanders for 3-0 and killed off any chance of a Chorley fight back.

Garry, who had been oddly quite during the game, responded by withdrawing Shelton Payne and bringing Lee McEvilly on in his place to try and force his way through the Matlock back line but it was too little too late.

As four minutes after the hour mark, Nathan Joynes walked through and completed his hat-tick to seal it for the host, with it boarding on humiliation for the travelling magpies.

Garry made two more changes bringing Wayne Maden on for Andy Teague and Tom Williams coming on for Steve Foster, who had a really quite game by his standards.

Dale Whitham then forced his way through midfield but only managed to fire his shot straight at Jon Kennedy in what the magpies only real chance of note in the second half.

Wayne Maden could of then been sent off as he brought down a Matlock midfielder Liam King after been turned just outside the area but he was only given a yellow card and the resulting free kick flashed well wide of the goal.

The result sees the magpies slip to third (and even with the win the magpies could of slipped to third as Northwhich and Chester won) Matlock also climb one place to 7^th with their win. The magpies are next in action on Tuesday night as Derbyshire side Rushall Olympic make their debut at Victory Park kick off is 7:45pm please bring a mate and double the gate.

This Saturday the magpies make the trip to Derbyshire as they face Matlock town in the Evo-stik Premier division, in what is the battle of former Blackburn Rovers great’s Mark Atkins and Garry Flitcroft.

Atkins was at Ewood Park when they won the Premiership back in 1995, beating Manchester United to the title by one point, and is current Matlock Town boss. While Garry was captain of the Ewood park outfit as they won promotion back to the Premiership in 2001.

The Magpies went to the top of the league on Saturday following their 2-1 win over Burscough at Victory Park, but if Northwhich or Chester pick up points in their game against North Ferriby United and Chasetown respectively then the magpies will be knocked off top spot.

Matlock sit 8^th in the league on 20 points with the league record reading 3-0 lose at Ashton United on the opening day of the season, 2-2 draw with Chasetown, 1-0 win at home to Kendal, 2-0 win at Frickley, 2-2 draw with Marine, 2-1 win at home to Mickleover Sports, September began with a 2-1 win at Burscough, before a 1-1 draw with Stafford Rangers, then went onto lose 1-0 at home to Bradford Park Avenue, before drawing 1-1 with Hednesford Town, then another 1-1 draw this time with Whitby town, they ended the month with a 3-0 win over North Ferriby United.

This Saturday Chorley fc host the league’s basement club Burscough fc in the evo-stik premier division as they look to return to the top of the league.

This game is been played after both teams went out to lower league Lancashire sides in the last round of the FA Cup. The magpies went out in a replay losing 1-0 to AFC Fylde at Victory Park. While the Linnets went out, also in a replay 5-2 to Clitheroe. So the league decided to fill the void by moving this game forward.

Burscough, as mentioned about sit bottom of the division have only got 4 points this season so far and are turning into the league’s whipping boys there results read- 2-0 lose to Frickley on the opening day, 4-1 lose to Chester, 2-1 lose to North Ferriby, 3-2 lose to Ashton, 3-0 lose to Bradford PA, 2-2 draw at Kendal, 2-1 lose to Matlock, 4-3 win at Nantwhich, 3-0 lose to Rushall, before losing 5-3 to FC United of Manchester, they lost in midweek 4-0 to Hednesford Town. Meanwhile the Magpies sit 3^rd following their lose to Chester on Wednesday but can jump to first on goal difference having played one more game then Northwhich and Chester should they pick up all three points.

Lee McEvilly and Adam Roscoe are the only former Burscough players in the magpies ranks while there are no ex magpies players in the Burscough team.

This Wednesday Chorley fc face a key game as they visit third place Chester fc in the evo-stik premier division.

Chester have only lost two games this season and sit third behind the magpies in the league tables their results read 1-1 draw with Rushall, 4-1 win at Burscough, 1-0 lose at Hednesford, 2-1 win v FC United, 5-1 win at home to Stocksbridge, 4-1 lose at Nantwhich, 6-0 win at home to North Ferriby, 2-0 win at Ashton United, 3-0 win at Worksop, 4-0 win at Kendal before a 3-0 win at Stafford. This means the Cestrain are unbeaten at home this season and haven’t lost in 4 games and haven’t conceded in 545 minutes of football.

There are no ex cestrains in the magpies squad while Chris Simm is the only ex magpie following a loan spell (from Southport) last season.

The last time the magpies played Chester was on that dreadful day in February when the scenes before and after the game were a throw back to the 70’s style of football, after a long fuelled debate on the internet it called kicked off at Victory Park. The key man for the magpies will be Lee McEvilly, he loves when the opposition try and wind him up and he isn’t a hero with the fans at the Deva so hopefully he will try and us to his advantage. While Matty McGinn will be the key man for Chester following his permanent move from Southport last week he has scored a number of goals for Chester during his loan spell at the club also he has a decent record from the spot.
